Dance

Let's Dance!

Performance for multiple students (We had 300 grades 1-4)
Integrating dance & physical education, music & art
the students were involved in all facets of the dancw production. They ran off the the programs, created the decorations and props, set up seating arrangements, hung decoations and became the stage crew.
Some students volunteered to be scribes and keep the notes. Others will hand out programs or be ushers.

Anecdote -

1. Because we allowed students to participacte in every facet of the production and dancing nof this show, these elementary students were able to take ownership. This made them feel good about the show and themselves. Many of them told instructors how excited they were about the particular part they had done.

2. Students worked coopertation with teachers in designing the moves. Some of the kidshad their own dance-off to come up with dance steps. For the "positive /negative " dance, each student chose the steps & positions. As a result studnts would claim "This is MY dance".

3. Teachers as well as administrators were impressed that then students made scenery, advertising and help choose music. The principal & superintendant enjoyed the personal escorts by students who were usually misbehaved. These students felt special because they got to be with the administrator without being in trouble! They had a job to do.

4. Because this presentation was outside, anyone could attend. Parents & young sibblings were there. Parents told me that they were excited to see such a large program including all grade levels.

5. We had 5 excited teachers who worked together. We had Art, Music, 2 Phys Ed & Librarian. Each used thier expertise to pull it all together. I had gotten most of my dace training from aTi.

6. Randy James was an excellent instructor. The class was so motovationg that I had to return to school and give my students the ame experience.

7. All of the students enjoyed doing the program. THey liked "showing off" to other students, staff and parents. I recall everyone succeding and enjoying this project.

This is the program form this show.
