Method: Guided independent work
Day 1
1. Look carefully at the examples.
2. Find a black & white photograph with a full range of values.
3. Draw your image on a 12” X 18” piece of white drawing paper. Use GRID METHOD.
Day 2 -3
4. Complete drawingin full values. This will count as a grade by itself. Mat then sign.
5. Collect a variety of gray values from the newspaper. The size and thickness of the print will provide different values.
Tear all paper, no cut edges.
You can add newsprint and white copy paper for the lightest values.
Lightweight black paper is available for the darkest values.
Make a value scale
Day 3 - 6
6. Make piles of torn newspaper acording to values. Apply newspaper to your drawing by ”painting” on a glue & water solution then apply paper smooth out with the brush.
7. Analyze your work as you go along. Does your work show the same values as the photo? Does it seem to “pop out” from the page?
8. Class gallery. Observe the work of others. What works? Why?
Day 7
9. Decide whether you want to leave your finished work on this paper or back it with some other paper.
10. Use your mat guide to figure out the size mat board you need.
11. Mat your piece.
12. Make sure you have your name & block on the lower right. You may use a thin sharpie to do this.
Day 7
Evaluation: Critique
Critique due with completed project.
Name & block in the LOWER RIGHT on the FRONT.
